Far Eastern Filial Branch, USSR Academy of Sciences (1949-1957)
In 1949, the Far Eastern Filial Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences named after academician V. L. Komarov was reestablished by the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
The Filial Branch became the leading research center of the USSR Academy of Sciences on the Pacific Ocean coasts, including 9 departments, several independent laboratories, Mountain-Taiga Station, Sun Service, Botanical Garden, Preserves, etc.
At the same time the Sakhalin Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences was founded. In 1955, it was reorganized into the Sakhalin Integrated Research Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences. It was the first academic institute set up in the post-war time in the Far East.
